Compress PDF

Reduce the file size of a PDF full of scanned pages or high-resolution images, so it fits within email attachment limits or uploads faster. We use one balanced compression level tuned for web/email use.
Compression is the most CPU-intensive tool we offer, so very large or very complex files can take longer. If a file times out, try splitting it into smaller parts first and compressing each separately.

How it works
- Upload the PDF you want to compress — scans and image-heavy files shrink the most.
- Wait a few seconds while we recompress embedded images at a balanced quality level.
- Download the smaller PDF, ready for email attachment limits or faster uploads.

Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my file get?
It depends on the content — PDFs full of high-resolution scanned images shrink the most (often 50–90%), while text-only PDFs are already small and may shrink very little.
What is the file size and page limit?
Up to 300MB and 300 pages per file. If your PDF is larger, split it first using our Split PDF tool, then compress each part.
Will compression make my text blurry?
Text stays sharp — compression mainly targets embedded images. Very low-quality scans may show slightly more visible artifacts.
Do I need an account to use this?
No. There is no sign-up, no login, and no email required — every tool on PDF Hater is completely free. Open the page, drop your file, download the result. That’s the whole flow.
How do I compress a PDF to under 1MB?
It depends heavily on what is inside the file — a text-only PDF is often already under 1MB, while a PDF full of high-resolution scans may not fit under 1MB no matter how hard we compress it, since there is a floor below which images become unreadable. If your file is a huge scanned document, try our Split PDF tool first to break it into smaller chunks (for example one PDF per 10 pages) and compress each part separately — that alone often gets individual files under 1MB even when the whole document could not be.
