M4A is the AAC audio format used by iPhone voice memos, Apple Music downloads, and a lot of podcast apps — it sounds great, but plenty of older car stereos, budget MP3 players, and editing tools only understand plain MP3. This tool decodes your M4A file and re-encodes it as a standard MP3.

The whole conversion runs locally on your device using WebAssembly. Your audio file is read, decoded, and re-encoded right there in the browser tab — it never gets uploaded anywhere, so there is nothing for us or anyone else to see or hear.

How it works

  1. 1. Drop your M4A file into the box above or click to browse.
  2. 2. Click convert — the file is decoded and re-encoded to MP3 right in your browser.
  3. 3. Download the MP3 file once it’s done.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio file uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. The file never leaves your device — that also means it works without an internet connection once the page has loaded.

Does converting to MP3 lose quality?

M4A to MP3 is a lossy-to-lossy re-encode, so there is some quality loss, same as it would be with any other converter. We encode at a high variable bitrate (~190kbps) so the difference is inaudible for normal listening on phones, cars, and earbuds.

What file size can I convert, and does my browser matter?

Up to 300MB on desktop (100MB on mobile), with no duration limit since only audio is processed. It works in any modern browser with WebAssembly support — no special browser features are required.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no account, and no email required for any tool on this site — just pick your file and convert.
