What happens to transparent areas in my PNG?
JPG has no transparency channel, so any transparent or semi-transparent pixels in your PNG are filled with white in the resulting JPG. If you need to keep transparency, keep the file as PNG.
Will the file size get smaller?
Usually yes, often significantly — JPG’s lossy compression is much more efficient than PNG for photos and scanned images. For flat-color graphics like logos or screenshots with text, the size difference is smaller and PNG may even stay sharper.
