PDF Hater ("we", "us") provides free online PDF, video, and extraction tools at pdfhater.com. This page explains what happens to your files and your data when you use the site.
Files you upload
- Files you upload to a server-side tool (merge, split, delete pages, rotate, unlock, protect, compress, PDF-to-JPG/PNG, or JPG-to-PDF) are transferred over HTTPS and processed on our server to perform the operation you selected.
- Files, including the output of a job, are automatically and permanently deleted 15 minutes after processing. We do not keep backups of uploaded or generated files beyond that window.
- We do not read, inspect, or use the content of your files for any purpose other than performing the operation you requested.
- For "Unlock PDF" and "Protect PDF", the password you enter is used only in memory to encrypt/decrypt your file for that single job. It is never logged, stored, or transmitted anywhere else.
- Our video conversion tools and our text/table extraction tools (OCR) do not upload anything, ever. Those tools run entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly/WebCodecs — the video or document you process there never leaves your device and never touches our server, so there is nothing for us to see, log, or delete for those tools.
No accounts
PDF Hater does not require or offer user accounts. We don't ask for your name, email, or any personal identifier to use the tools.
Data we do collect
To keep the service fast and reliable, we record aggregated, non-personal telemetry for each job: the operation performed, file size and page count, processing time, and outcome (success, error, or timeout). This data is used to size server resources and diagnose problems — it is not linked to your identity. We also store a one-way hash derived from your IP address and browser user-agent (not the raw IP) for a short period, used only to detect abusive traffic (e.g. automated scraping) and apply temporary rate limits.
Cookies and advertising
PDF Hater is supported by Google AdSense. Ads are served by Google on this site, and Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can learn more about how Google uses data and manage your ad preferences at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. Where required by law, we will request your consent before setting non-essential cookies.
Log data
Like most websites, our server automatically records basic technical information for each request (such as IP address, browser type, and timestamp) for security and troubleshooting purposes. This is retained only briefly and is not used to build a profile of you.
Data retention summary
- Uploaded and generated files: deleted automatically after 15 minutes.
- Aggregated job telemetry (no file content, no PII): retained up to 90 days, then deleted.
- Abuse-detection hashes: retained up to 1 hour.
Your rights
Because we don't create accounts or store personal profiles, there is generally no personal data of yours to access, export, or delete beyond the short-lived items described above. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at the email listed on our About page's linked channels.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
